Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Cinema Arts
The Cinema Arts Department in the Conservatory of Performing Arts at Point Park University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor tenure-track appointment, to begin Fall 2022.
About the Position: The successful applicant will be able to teach introductory, intermediate, and advanced level courses to undergraduates in the Cinema Production major. Preference will be given to those that can teach intermediate and advanced classes in Cinematography or Editing. These candidates should also have a record of successful teaching at the university level, and significant professional experience in their field. An MFA or other appropriate terminal degree is required for the tenure-track position.
Candidates should expect to work closely with undergraduate students and be able to communicate effectively with a diverse group, both orally and in writing. Principal responsibilities include teaching, supporting student projects, and participating in service to departmental or university-wide committees, or service to the community. The successful candidate will be committed to teaching within a demanding conservatory environment and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching, mentoring, and creative activity with undergraduates. All faculty in the Conservatory share in significant advising and mentoring of students on both academic and career goals.
About the Department and Program: With over 250 full-time undergraduate students, the Cinema Arts Department is one of three departments in the University's prestigious and nationally recognized Conservatory of Performing Arts. The department offers B.F.A. degrees in Cinema Production, Screenwriting, and Animation and a B.A in Cinema Arts with a focus on Animation, Cinema Production, or Screenwriting. Acceptance into the programs are competitive, portfolio-based, and at the discretion of the Cinema Arts faculty. Once enrolled, Cinema Production students follow a rigorous 8-term course sequence that requires extensive crew collaboration, creative and technical mastery, as well as artistic vision and execution.
