Information Technology Technician
Job Summary: Under the direction of the Systems Administrator, provides support for the various IT services and technologies used by METCOM; including but not limited to computer, telephony, GIS, SCADA and asset management systems. Is responsible for configuring computers and other peripheral devices to attach to the METCOM network. Provides staff and users with assistance solving computer related problems, such as malfunctions and program problems. Follows departmental policies and procedures and assists in enforcing METCOM's Computer/Electronic Communications Policy.

Essential Functions:
Assists in Network and Departmental Technology projects, from research through implementation.
Installs and configures approved applications on computers as required.
Provides setup and configuration of computing peripherals such as printers, CD and DVD read/writers, monitors, scanners, mice, special keyboards and other equipment as necessary including A/V.
Troubleshoots computer and peripheral issues and provides hardware replacement, cleaning or repair as needed.
Assists in maintaining compliance with software licensing and inventory.
Performs hands-on fixes at the desktop level including installing and upgrading software, implementing file backups and configuration of systems and applications.
Performs basic networking maintenance functions such as user creation and assignment of rights and permissions. Should be familiar with DHCP, DNS, IP, LAN, and internet connectivity.
Record and produce videos for Commission Meetings.
Administer the Cityworks Public Asset Management System.
Administer the ArcGIS Enterprise GIS System.
Administer in-house phone system and contacting tech support during outages or malfunctions.
Maintain the public-facing websites for METCOM and the Board of Commissioners.
Assist SCADA Technician, when needed, with administering METCOM's SCADA system.
Perform and maintain an inventory of equipment using the inventory software and barcoding equipment.
Assist Purchasing Specialist with administration of wireless services.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to gain working knowledge of St. Mary's County Metropolitan Commission policies and procedures;
Ability to act as a representative of St. Mary's County Metropolitan Commission to the public and to provide courteous and knowledgeable customer service;
Knowledge and experience interfacing with Microsoft Windows Server platforms.
Ability to prioritize and schedule work duties.
Ability to follow directions and be a team player.
Ability to effectively communicate with other staff members and vendors;
Ability to set priorities and work both independently and in a group setting.
Possess organizational skills;
Ability to lift and move computer and peripheral equipment in excess of 40 lbs.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D.;
Associate degree or college level courses;
Valid Driver's license;
Personal vehicle;
Three years or more experience with Windows-based servers, workstations, and LAN technologies;
Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Work requires occasional moderate physical effort, including lifting and moving computer terminals and peripheral equipment in excess of 40 pounds. Requires periods of prolonged sitting at a computer screen.

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting or training rooms, residences, or commercial vehicles e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations and traffic signals. Operates folding equipment which may require ear protection during use.
