The University of Vermont (UVM) invites applicants for a Lecturer position focused on public communication in the Department of Community Development and Applied Economics (CDAE).

The CDAE Department is a multi-disciplinary unit with its scholarly activity focused on sustainable local, regional and international communities through transdisciplinary research, education, and outreach. CDAE offers undergraduate majors in Public Communication, Community Entrepreneurship, and Community and International Development. We also offer a Master of Science degree in Community Development and Applied Economics, and a Master of Public Administration degree (MPA).

The successful candidate should be able to teach introductory and advanced communication courses that balance theory, practical skills, and address real-world contexts. This person will help develop applied learning experiences and teach innovative courses that address emerging trends in the field, such as those found in convergent media, multimedia journalism, communication design, and/or strategic social media. Responsibilities will include advising undergraduate students and service at the departmental, college, and university levels. This person will work in a multi-disciplinary environment at a Land-Grant university.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion through quality teaching and undergraduate advising. Special consideration will be given to candidates with (a) teaching/professional experience in public communication applied to socially responsible business or non-profit organizations, (b) practice in service learning and community development, and © experience using new media technologies.

Applications will be reviewed beginning November 1, 2018 and will continue until suitable candidates are identified. Funding has been secured for the position and the successful candidate is expected to start in the fall of 2019.
